YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A well-maintained, 1920s Mediterranean bungalow near the base of L.A.’s Nichols Canyon and owned, per property records, by Queen Latifah and her long-rumored former lady-mate, Jeannette Jenkins, has popped (back) up for sale on the open market with an asking price of $1.799 million.
Property records show Miz Latifah and Miz Jenkins acquired the red tile-roofed residence in early 2010 for $1.324 million from “NYPD Blue” and “Agents of SHIELD” man-hunk actor Henry Simmons, and our research shows the erstwhile B.F.F.s had it up for sale for a couple of months late last year, first with an asking price of $1.939 million and later at $1.849 million.
Current online marketing materials show the single-story bungalow, hidden behind high hedges and decked out with a fancy-pants home automation system, measures in at 2,026 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms plus separate guest quarters with private entrance and remodeled bathroom.
There are French doors, mahogany floors, a glass-tiled fireplace and high ceilings, as per listing details, and, in addition to adjoining formal living and dining rooms, the house includes a sky-lit kitchen with black granite tile countertops and stainless-steel appliances and a family room with vaulted ceilings. A deck off the rear of the residence has a free-standing spa tub and steps down to a shady series of terraces and decks surrounded by verdantly lush yet, per the listing description, “energy saving landscaping.”
Miz Queen, befitting a woman of her show business stature — she has a Grammy, a Golden Globe and Emmy and Oscar nominations — keeps a healthy real estate portfolio. The nearly 8,000-square-foot Colts Neck, N.J., mansion she acquired in 2001 for $2.142 million was sold in February (2015) for $2,088,500, and she continues to own an almost 6,780-square-foot Beverly Hills home previously owned by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis and purchased in July 2005 for $5.4 million.
