Eric Gold Lists Beach House
Eric Gold — Ellen DeGeneres’ former manager and one of the producers of “Holler if Ya Hear Me,” the much-ballyhooed Broadway musical based on the life of Tupac Shakur — shelled out $9 million in 2009 for a 1960s Buff & Hensman-designed beachfront getaway on Malibu’s La Costa beach. Gold and wife Marcy Kaplan put the carefully and fully refurbished residence up for lease last fall at $75,000 per month, and now it’s up for sale at $14.3 million, reduced from its original $15.495 million pricetag.
The approximately 4,300-square-foot post-and-beam beach house was once owned by Berry Gordy, and lays claim to 60 feet of sandy La Costa Beach frontage. There are au courant wide-plank wood floors throughout the open-concept living space on the main floor that includes a double-wide combination living and dining area with fireplace and a 20-ish-foot long disappearing wall of glass.
An expensively equipped, marble-countered galley-style kitchen off the dining area wraps around to the games area/library nook that opens to a central courtyard. Idiosyncratic and possibly original parquet wood floors extend to all three of the upstairs bedrooms.
One bedroom has built-in bunk beds, and the other two, including the master suite, have direct, sliding-glass-door access to a cantilevered, glass-railed balcony. A separate guest suite with private bathroom opens off the courtyard between the house and garage.
